Local History

The Grafton-Midview Public Library Collection Development Policy includes the following section regarding local history materials:

10. One area where items will be selected regardless of selection criteria is Grafton local history.  The library will strive toward comprehensiveness in this area.  The Grafton-Midview Public Library takes comprehensiveness to mean:

A collection in which a library endeavors, so far as it is reasonably possible, to include all significant works of recorded knowledge (publications, manuscripts, other forms) in all applicable languages, for a necessarily defined and limited field. This level of collection intensity is one that maintains a “special collection”: the aim, if not the achievement, is exhaustiveness. Older material is retained for historical research with active preservation efforts.

In addition, the Grafton-Midview Public Library maintains a Digital Collection contains scanned images, documents, and other media using Biblioboard to share and display historical objects with our community, local historians, genealogists, family historians, and anyone interested in Grafton-area history.  Our collection primarily covers Grafton Village, Grafton Township (Belden), Eaton Township, and parts of both Carlisle Township and the City of Elyria.  If you would like to donate or share your historical materials with the Library, please call 440.926.3317 to get in touch with a librarian.
