Join us at the VFW of Grafton for a Christmas Movie Trivia Night! Bring your own team of six or make one there. Enjoy pizza, hot chocolate, and seasonal cookies and break out your ugly Christmas sweater because anyone who comes in a festive outfit will be entered into a raffle to win a Charlie Brown Christmas tree! TEEN PROGRAMS Join the Anime and Manga Society to watch and discuss Anime, draw Manga, and have a light Japanese style snack and drinks. Enjoy light refreshments. Retro 1980's & 90's Note Folding Tuesday, September 27, 4 PM Before there were cell phones, the youth of the 80s & 90's mastered the art of origami note folding. Register for this fun program to learn some of the secret techniques that you can try when communicating with your friends in place of using your phone. While we fold, we will discuss the book Folded Notes from High School by Matt Boren. Participants may pick up Library copies of the book starting Wednesday, August 17. Come dressed in a costume 6 - 7:30 PM 11/29 - Decorate for Christmas Wreck This Journal Club Thursdays, 10/6, 12/1, 3:30 PM Our Wreck this Journal club will continue this fall. If you did not get to join us last year, contact the teen librarian to see if there is still availability. Do you like to write, journal, draw, create or destroy? Then this club is definitely for you. We will be working our way through Wreck this Journal by Keri Smith. Participants will receive a free copy of the journal. VolunTeens Wednesday, October 12, 4 PM Teens interested in volunteering at the library should attend this informational meeting to learn about our teen volunteering opportunities. Community service looks great on college, scholarship, and job applications. All Boxed Up Tuesday, December 6, 3:30 PM Decorate your own paper mache box to keep your stuff in or give as a gift to someone for the holidays. DIGITAL ESCAPE ROOMS Test your sleuthing skills in these digital escape rooms. Age levels are recommended for each game room, however anyone is welcome to give it a try. It can be a book of poetry, a screenplay, a play or musical, graphic novel, picture book--- the sky is the limit! 12/5: Part II of Author for a Day: Tweens will read their original stories. Choose to keep your literary masterpiece or turn them in to Maggie to be added to GMPL's permanent collection! The 2nd Annual Harry Potter Cooking Challenge Monday, October 24, 6 PM Midview High School Welcome to The 2nd Annual Harry Potter Cooking Challenge (it's our Chamber of Secrets year!) Five teams of three will compete against each other by preparing a magical appetizer, entrée, and dessert with their own pantry ingredients brought from home while also transfiguring mystery basket ingredients! Music & Movement Wednesdays, September 21, October 19, November 16, December 21, 11:30 AM Toddlers and high energy preschoolers will love this program! Learn your letters, explore numbers, and interact with a great story while you move to the music. Parent participation is encouraged! Registration is not required. Children - First Monday of Each Month 4 - 5 PM Come on in and kick it with Korra! Read her a story, sing her a song, or just spend some quality time with Korra. Every first Monday of the month, Korra comes with her caregiver, Tina. The Triumph and Tragedy of Edgar Allan Poe With Presentations with Pizzazz Tuesday, October 18, 6:30 PM Join Susan Cannavino of Presentations with Pizazz for a creative and informative presentation on the life of Edgar Allan Poe. This 19th century American writer suffered so much loss and death; as the tragedy of his life unfolded, Poe expressed his overwhelming sadness and suffering through his poetry and short stories. Registration required. A handkerchief is optional. This is a hybrid program and can be attended either in person or on Zoom. Escape Room - Space Station Tuesday, October 4, 3:30 PM or 4:30 PM Do you have what it takes to escape the space station? Can you keep your cool under pressure? Register for this fun board game style Escape Room. This escape room is recommended for ages 16+. Perfect for teens (ages 12-18 and in grades 7-12) and their parents to try and solve together.
